Call for papers
WALTR’s call for papers for Volume Two is now open, and closes on 31 January 2024.
WALTR accepts manuscripts in two categories – Articles and Teaching notes.
Articles
Article content and style
WALTR publishes short to medium length, engaging articles on legal education and related topics.
Manuscripts must be sufficiently scholarly in content and style, but may be more conversational than typical academic writing. Article manuscripts are subject to peer review.
Authors are welcome to submit either:
– Completely new research which has not yet been published elsewhere; or
– New writing which builds on research which the author has published or will publish elsewhere; or
– New writing which applies the author’s previous research to a new context.
Article manuscript guidelines
Manuscripts must be between 1750–5000 words in length (excluding referencing) and may have up to 50 footnotes (which are to be used for AGLC4-compliant citations only).
Manuscripts should use appropriate headings, which should be in bold type. One layer of sub-headings may be used.
Please submit in .doc or .docx (Microsoft Word document) format only.
Teaching notes
Teaching note content and style
Teaching notes provide authors with opportunities to publish writing which is not suitable as a scholarly article, but is nonetheless of interest to other law teachers. Teaching notes are subject to editorial review only.
A wide variety of writing may fall into this category, including short reflections on teaching and assessment experiences, contextualised lesson plans for other law teachers (including those teaching political and legal studies in secondary schools), and opinion pieces relating to teaching and learning in law.
Teaching note manuscript guidelines
Teaching notes must be between 750–1750 words in length (excluding referencing) and may have up to 15 footnotes (which are to be used for AGLC4-compliant citations only).
Given the wide variety of writing that may be published as a teaching note, authors are free to structure their manuscript as they see fit. Where headings are used, they should be in bold type. Sub-headings should not be used except where absolutely necessary.
Please submit in .doc or .docx (Microsoft Word document) format only.
Review and publication
Article manuscripts are subject to peer review and editorial discretion. Teaching notes are subject to editorial review.
If a member of the editorial board submits any manuscript to WALTR, the entire review process is managed by another editor, with the author having no involvement in the process.
Manuscripts accepted for publication in WALTR will be typeset and compiled into a single PDF volume. The volume will be distributed amongst WATOL networks by email, made available on the WALTR website, and published on Austlii.
The submission deadline for Volume Two is 31 January 2024.
